Working in
autonomy

Many craftsmen today choose to work alone: Dimos offers solutions to support you in this approach.

A strong trend in roofing

Many building contractors choose to work alone, and the roofing is no exception. This includes newly established businesses that may not have the resources to hire staff from the outset, as well as long-established companies that do not wish to recruit, or have even opted to reduce their workforce.

Motivations and obstacles

Working alone primarily reduces administrative tasks and overhead. It also offers greater freedom in terms of travel and schedules, and eliminates the need to manage the human element (supervision, team and scheduling management, absenteeism).

Is it legal to work alone on a roofing site? In France, the legislation is clear: isolation is not a risk factor for accidents, but it increases the risk of injury, particularly when using personal protective equipment with a fall arrest system. Working alone under these conditions is prohibited under Article R. 4323-61 of the French Labor Code: "When such personal protective equipment is used, a worker must never be left alone so that they can be rescued within a timeframe compatible with preserving their health.".

While the law permits isolated work at height in other cases, there are still a number of limitations, in the execution of heavy work, but also in the management of travel outside construction sites: retrieval of materials, commercial appointments… More and more tradespeople are organizing themselves to help and assist each other on construction sites, particularly on tasks requiring the carrying of heavy loads, long periods or requiring two people: installation of large roof windows, removal of roofing , marking before installation.

Dimos solutions for working independently
