EN 517 - Safety hooks
This norm applies to hooks constituting permanent anchorings positioned on the surface of sloping roofs, intended to :
> hold the upper part of a roofer's ladder.
> constitute an anchoring point to which can be hooked an Individual Protection Device (EPI) against falls from height, such as a roller, energy absorber, fall protector on a rope, for a single person, marked CE and producing no force greater than 600 kg.
The norm specifies :
> the geometry of the hook
> the materials and surface treatments to be used,
> the requirements concerning systems for mounting on to the load-bearing structure of the roof,
> test requirements (static and dynamic loads),
> instructions for use and marking requirements.
A draft upgrade of the norm defines 2 types of hooks :
> Type A for efforts solely in the direction of the slope of the roof
> Type B for efforts which are also lateral or inthe direction opposite to that of the slope of the roof.
Testing requirements :
> deformation less than 5 mm after static loading of 150 kg at the end of the hook.
> function guaranteed up to 260 kg at the end of the hook.
> resistance of anchoring point to a 1 ton static load (draft upgrade of norm)
> resistance of the anchoring point to a 100 kg dynamic load falling from 2m50.

EN 795 - Anchoring devices against falls from height
This norm applies to permanent anchorings intended exclusively to constitute an anchoring point to which an Individual Protection Device (EPI) against falls from height, such as a roller, energy absorber, fall-protector on a rope, for a single person, marked CE and producing no force greater than 600 kg, may be attached.
The norm specifies :
> the test requirements (static and dynamic loads)
> the instructions for use and marking requirements.
The norm defines 5 classes of anchorings, including :
> Class A1 : anchorings located on vertical, horizontal or inclined surfaces
> Class A2 : anchorings located on inclined roofs
Testing requirements :
> resistance of anchoring point to a 1 ton static load
> resistance of the anchoring point to a 100 kg dynamic load falling from 2m50

EN 13374 - Temporary peripheral guard rails
This norm applies to temporary peripheral guard rails used in construction, the main function of which is to prevent persons and objects falling from roofs, ridges, staircases and other zones requiring the establishment of protection (in accordance with the recoil area).
By extension, brackets of scaffolding fitted with guard rails the function of which is to prevent persons and objects from falling from roofs are also concerned by this norm.
The norm specifies :
> the geometry of the guard rails :
- Class A : the space between the two handrails must be less than 47 cm
- Class B : the space between the two handrails must be less than 25 cm
- Class C : a safety net is required with a mesh of less than or equal to 10 cm x 10 cm
> the test requirements (static and dynamic loads)
> the instructions for use and marking requirements
The norm defines 3 classes according to the roof slopes :
> Class A : slope less than 10°
> Class B : slope less than 30° (or 60° if the fall height is less than 2 m)
> Class C : slope less than 45° (or 60° if the fall height is less than 5 m)
Testing requirements :
> Class A :
- load 125 kg vartically
- load 30 kg towards outside
- load 20 kg laterally
> Class B :
- 50 kg bag falling from a height of 2.25 m and producing an impact at the bottom of the bollard
- 50 kg bag falling from a height of 1 m and producing an impact at the top of the bollard
> Class C :
- 75 kg roller falling from 5 m along a slope inclined at 60°
